Bella is a lovely, spayed female with a wonderful personality.
She entered the care of Pet Helpers in May 2015 along with her 'sibling', Sophie.
In mid-August 2015, Bella became sick and it was determined by the Pet Helpers veterinarian she needed intensive care by veterinary specialists. She was taken to Veterinary Specialty Care and received diagnosis of increased liver enzymes, anemia and upper respiratory tract infection. Bella had lost a significant amount of weight in a short period of time, too. After her stay under the care of the specialists, she was discharged and immediately placed into foster care with me (Adopt Charleston Cats).
When I picked up Bella from Veterinary Specialty Care I met this nice, but somewhat shy, cat who all the staff at VSC said they all loved so dearly. Bella lived with me for approximately a month. What I found was her shyness was largely because of not feeling well and likely because I was her third residence in a short period of time. However, she quickly became comfortable in my home, and I saw the cat I had heard so many great things about.
After almost two weeks, I returned Bella to the specialist for her first recheck and the results indicated improvement in her liver enzymes and anemia, but she still had more healing to do. After approximately another week, Bella's personality began to blossom and she was showing interest in wanting to play with cat toys, seeking affection and asking for interaction with humans on a regular basis. The next week, she continued to show a large increase in having a social personality. Bella would spend her days resting on my desk since I work from home, she would meow for head and shoulder rubs and she enjoyed the ritual of bed time rubs. During non-office hours, she was either sitting on her perch or on the cat tree enjoying the sights of the backyard.
Bella loves playing with cat wands, running through cat tunnels and the game of "red dot" (laser). Playing around the bed sheets is another thing she loves. Cover her up and tap the top of the sheet and she'll purr loudly while trying to catch your fingers (no worries, she always played with her claws retracted - never had a scratch the entire time she lived with us). She also enjoyed chasing balls and stuffed cat toys across the hardwood floors. She is a fan of catnip toys, too. Bella also likes to give hugs when being held and purrs easily.
On Friday, September 18, she had another recheck with the specialist and her lab results showed her increased liver enzymes - RESOLVED, her anemia - RESOLVED and no sign of the upper respiratory infection. Bella had also gained 1-1/2 lbs while in foster care. She was officially discharged as a patient, and on September 20 she was returned to Pet Helpers to be available for adoption. Currently, she is hanging out in the Admin offices so please ask to visit with her as she is not presently in the townhouses or cat rooms.
