Have you noticed the changes at Adopt Charleston Cats as well as the many changes happening at our local shelters?  The new year has many exciting things ahead.  Adopt Charleston Cats has added a logo and modified the website.  Meanwhile, Charleston Animal Society has been working on some construction changes in both the lobby and their neonatal kitten unit.  At Pet Helpers there have been personnel changes, and it was our pleasure to have met the new Executive Director among others.
There is potentially an additional change for Adopt Charleston Cats and because of this we have added our logo, purchased our own domain name, and modified the website.  Please be sure to check out the various pages using the drop down navigation bar in the header of our web pages.  If you click on the shelters' names you will find additional information and photos.  We will continue to share "featured" cats and/or kittens available for adoption on their own page under each of their shelter's name.
This past week we have seen a number of our featured or photographed cats being adopted from both Charleston Animal Society and Pet Helpers.  Congratulations to all the animals who found their families, but special mention to Patches, Townes, and Sunkist - all formerly featured cats on the website.
With our featured cats moving from featured to "recently adopted" on the navigation bar, we have added new feline features for your consideration.  Please do not hesitate to check out CAS's Ernie Mae, Harrison, or Indigo.  At Pet Helpers  a number of cats are looking for their pet parents, but we continue to highlight long-time resident, Bearby Jean, along with Havarti, Seth, and Ubie.
On the home front of Adopt Charleston Cats, our time of "kitty sitting" came to an end last week when former CAS foster kitten, "Julia Child", went back home.  She provided us much entertainment and love.  She's a very photogenic cat, too, and she now appears at the top of our blog page showing off her golden eyes.  We will look forward to our next request to kitty sit and hope it won't be too long of a wait.
Charleston Animal Society foster cat, Indigo, remains in our care and she is now a 'featured' feline on this site.  She has made progress in her behavior, but we still believe she will be happiest as either a barn cat or in a home with only adults who understand a cat's body language.  She still exhibits some issues around men, but with lots of TLC it is believed she can learn to love men again.  Being able to pet her for minutes at a time, give chin rubs and head scratches is becoming a daily experience.  The best thing (for me) is she's a great sleeping buddy and will sleep all night next to me with morning requests for petting becoming more common.
Until next time, we hope that all the furbabies in your life help keep you happy and warm.  Keep on purring, pets of the world.

Many Are Still Looking

As we begin the new year, we first would like to wish all of the families who adopted new pets into their lives many years of love with your furry friend.  So many cats were adopted through local Charleston shelters and rescues and we thank everyone who rescued during 2014.

Adopt Charleston Cats continues promoting so many felines that remain in the shelters looking for their guardians.  Unfortunately, so many wonderful and beautiful creatures remain homeless and have not yet found the safety of the shelter or foster home yet, but so many individuals are working hard to help.

There has been a lot of interest in Pet Helpers' adoptable cat, Ubie, an owner-surrendered sphynx cat who is 8 years young.  We have received multiple information requests regarding this beautiful boy.  Ubie is, however, still looking for his forever family where he can be a sole pet.  We have added a Ubie page to our website, and he is this week's website "feature" feline.

Indigo, a Charleston Animal Society Adoption Ambassador, continues to be our current foster cat and is showing improvement in her behavior likely due to a combination of taking medication and having been back in our home for the past month.  She now sleeps next to me every night, allows me limited time (but increasing) to pet her, curls up in the chair next to me whenever I'm on my laptop, and has given purrs more freely.  Improvement continues and she has mellowed out enough that finding pet parents or a barn in need of a barn cat can be in her future.  Due to her interaction with us, we will not be placing her with a family as children will not be good for her, nor her for them.

This week, we have the opportunity to kitty-sit again for one of our former Charleston Animal Society foster kittens from 2013.  Julia Child was delivered to us last Thursday and will remain with us through this week.  She is now a year and a half young, and one of the most energetic and curious cats we have had.  She adores heights and no spot in our home is too high for Miss Julia.  She has found her way on top of every kitchen cabinet, on the window ledge above our front door, and everywhere in between.  A week full of free entertainment!  We will miss her when she returns home, but we know she is so very loved and cared for by her human parent.

On Sunday I returned to Charleston Animal Society and volunteered in their Cat Room.  While the kennels are not full, there are cats waiting for adoption.  So many nice cats that deserve to have a place to call their own and we were able to share with our Facebook friends many photos of adoptable cats, future adoptable kittens, as well as several felines that were fortunate to find their forever families on Sunday afternoon.  We have also added an additional cat to our website pages and we ask that you check out "Townes", a handsome adult male that was a very enjoyable cat to visit and play with.

We hope you will take some time out of your busy schedule to stop by our local shelters and visit with the adoptable cats and kittens.  If you don't see one that you fall in love with, please ask the staff about if there are any adoptable cats in other areas of the building are if they have placed any in the local Petsmart or Petco locations in Charleston.  Remember our community of adoptable cats is among us in so many places...hopefully you will find your perfect match.  Adopt Charleston Cats also shares photos and information about other adoptable cats that are not in area shelters; and these felines will be fully vetted and available for adoption from area rescue organizations.  Please do not hesitate to look for these other animals or message us if you are looking for something special.

The End of Another Year

December ended with many activities from volunteering at the shelter and helping cats find their forever families, making photographs of a lot of great adoptable cats at Charleston Animal Society and Pet Helpers, being a part of Charleston Animal Society and Hendrick Motors Home for the Holidays, and bringing Indigo back to foster after her accident.

So many felines went home for the holidays.  It was a great feeling to be a part of helping the public make their match so they could adopt their furry feline.  The two special needs cats below had been featured cats on our website and they both found wonderful new owners.  Congratulations to these sweeties, their humans, and to all the others not pictured.

Senior cat, Missy
In addition to shelter adoptions, there were many cats and kittens who were adopted from Charleston Animal Society and delivered by Santa's helpers on Christmas Eve and Christmas day.  Personally, it was one of the most enjoyable things I have done during this special time of the year.  Here are a few of the helpers and their kittens they had the privilege to deliver.
When delivering a CAS adopted kitten on Christmas Eve, I was generously allowed to return to the family's home on Christmas afternoon to make photos of the children and kitten.  This kitten, Lucy, was a surprise for the children and it was a wonderful and fun afternoon with a terrific family.
Did you say you want to see more photos of great cats?  The following are cats available for adoption from Pet Helpers.  Please visit them, fall in love, and see if you can make room for adopting in your life for the year 2015.

Adopt Charleston Cats continues to foster Indigo.  She spent a couple of nights at Charleston Animal Society after having an accident before Christmas.  Her tail is expected to heal on its own as the fracture was not severe.  Indigo continues to need some TLC for her socialization, and unfortunately, the New Year's Eve fireworks were a bit upsetting to her.  We will continue working with her to see if she can be a wonderful addition to someone's home ~ stay tuned.

Meanwhile, we wish all of our followers and readers a purrfect New Year, a safe, healthy, and happy 2015!  Thank you for your interest in what we do in spreading the word about wonderful animals available for adoption.

Having owned cats all my life, when we put our last pet to rest after 17 years the decision was made to begin fostering kittens from our local No Kill shelter.  Many kittens and several cats later, it is rewarding to help the community and find wonderful, loving homes for the felines.  This website will include some thoughts, emotions, challenges, and best of all the enjoyments from the rewarding fostering experience.  It will also highlight cats available for adoption from local area shelters.

I am not a veterinarian nor vet technician.  It is only for the love of cats and a life-time commitment of their care from neonatal abandoned kittens to aging cats that I have developed a few skills and learned along my journey of caring.

Adopt Charleston Cats highlights some of the cats and kittens currently in the care of Charleston Animal Society, Dorchester Paws, Pet Helpers, and Hallie Hill Animal Sanctuary located in the Lowcountry of, South Carolina. More are available for adoption, but we will show a few that are either on an adoption floor, Pounce Cat Cafe + Wine Bar, available for adoption from their foster home, or soon to be available for adoption. We also highlight adoptable felines available through individuals (primarily rescuers/TNR) and these animals are fully vetted. Periodically, we will also highlight kittens and cats available for adoption through agencies from surrounding counties.
Please consider adoption by visiting each facilities' website to learn how you can visit and meet your next furry friend or contact us to be connected to a rescuer.
Thank you for looking.
